Not far from Phuket, just south along the coast, is Krabi. There's a cluster of tourist places around here, Ao Nang is a popular tourist beach, and Koh Hong is a short boat ride away, with it's large lagoon.
The big tourist things to here, Tiger Temple, Wat Tham Suea - the attraction isn't the temple, it's the hill with 1237 steps up to a pagoda and Buddha statue, and some spectacular views. This temple is an absolute must do, but its hard work. The beaches, are a draw and Phangna bay boat trips, there's a hot spring, hydrothermal pools you can sit in and take the salts, and the Emerald Pool, a green mineral natural pond for swimming in, with a blue pool and nature area nearby for viewing.
Ao Nang beach, is one of the main tourist beaches local to Krabi town. Krabi itself has some spectacular views (the photo at the top really doesn't do it justice), but you have to go out a little to get some decent beaches. Ao Nang is not far from Krabi and so many tourists base themselves here.
I found places to eat seafood, and live bands play at bars in the walking street. Westernized for the tourists, I visit a Haagen Dazs for an 'Ice cream Fondue', a selection of ice creams and fruit, with melted chocolate fondue to dip it in.
Along the road, there's lots of mountains and locks of caves. I visited Sa Yuan Thong 2 cave, it's a good cave for swimming in, but nothing more. Sometimes you're better off not having a torch when you enter these caves. I found a big (3 inch) spider on the floor.
There's a lot more to do here, but ths only visited for a couple of days, so the rest will have to wait.
