This is a small bungalow beach resort in a quiet place, with some excellent cheap seafood restaurants on the beach next door. It's also undiscovered by tourists.
Maybe Paradise Beach resort isn't your ideal dream Thai beach holiday, burgers and coke on a busy tourist beach are fine, if you have children who are fussy eaters and don't want to travel far from your hotel. But for travellers who want a quiet empty beach, a cheap bungalow and freshly cooked tasty cheap seafood on a table with the sound of the sea in the background, well you need to look a little further.
Since I'm heading up to Bangkok, I decided to stop off at one of my favorite cheap bungalows in Prachuap Khiri Khan, which is just south of Sam Roi Yot National Park.
In the drone shot above, you can see the peaks in the background, this is Sam Roi Yot (literally it means 300 peaks). Here you can kayak out to Monkey Island, see famous Caves With Pavillions inside, and see scenic temples.
The bungalows here cost 800 baht a night and sleep 2, they are next to the beach and are basic but have aircon, a television, a shower and toilet. Which is really good enough. Further south along the beach there are two seafood restaurants directly on the beach. Since it was dark, it's better to go along the road or drive there! Do not walk along the beach in the dark, you'll only fall into a ditch or something.
The food is insanely fresh and priced for Thai people. My meal for 3 including drinks came to 1200 baht. Crunchy fried quid with garlic, fried fish with herb garden, fried vegetables, tom-yum soup with plenty of large shrimp in it. This is a fishing coast and you can tell from the food.
I head back to the bungalow to sleep, it's been a long day and a long drive. Tomorrow I finish the drive to Bangkok, it's better to drive in daylight, so a stopover in Prachuap is welcome. For the price, it's like a night out too!
Breakfast at the resort is as basic as it gets: instant coffee or tea and cookies! But a local woman sells little treats from a scooter stall. 5 baht each, little packets of sweet noodles, rice cakes and other little snacks. It's enough.
