It's another very hot day in the middle of a Thai winter, and so I escape to Frost World in Pattaya. I've been to many of these around the world, including Harbin Ice Wonderland in Bangkok a few years ago. But this one, well it's confused and confusing!
Most of the cold scene is outside, with trees made of plastic and polystyrene covered statues. Making it look and feel like the artic. Except there's no shade and its a blisteringly hot day under the sun!
We quickly decide to escape into the air-conditioned waiting room, where we wait for our allocated time to go into the freezer and see the real ice sculptures. The view outside is almost surreal, it looks like a ski-piste in the mountains, but everyone is dressed in shorts and flip-flops.
Inside, there really isn't much, only a dozen or so sculptures. Even the ice glasses only serve soft drinks. It's a nice shock to get into the cold and remind yourself how cold it can really be, but it's also nice to get out and back into the warmth.
Frost Ice World is a seasonal thing, created in Winter, on the bypass road outside Pattaya. It's overpriced and under-whelming but its nice to get into a freezer sometimes!
