My news-years visit to Pattaya, means seeing the sights. This Buddha image is famous in Pattaya, it's reputedly carved using a laser onto the side of the mountain at Khao Cheejan.
That's sort of a legend that's built up, but the image isn't carved at all, rather its slabs of cement painted in gold carefully outlining the shape of the Buddha.
The laser story likely comes from a laser projector use to make the position of the image! It certainly wasn't used to burn away the rock!
This is a huge image and free to visit. There's a park underneath offering un-obstructed views of the Buddha image, and the image is visible for miles around. Exploring in front, there was construction work, and from the water features and bunkers, I'm guessing it's another golf course.
Next to Laser Buddha is a vineyard, which is a nice place to eat. And the famous Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens, which has elephant, crocodile shows and traditional dancing. That's well worth a visit too, but for another time.
