If you come to Thailand during the new year celebrations, then you really need to find a place to join the countdown. In Bangkok that was traditionally Central Mall, but now Asiatique is becoming the go to place for a good party!
A big-wheel gives a view over the river, and TV crews were ready with their cameras to film the countdown here.
I've covered this night market before, on my life blog, for New Years, the mall remains open till 2am, and buses and boats link to the BTS Skytrain, which is also running till 2am. So it's easy enough to get to.
The big attraction is the live music with famous bands, famous in Thailand anyway. If you want to soak up some Thai pop music head to the stage area, get yourself a drink and find a nice place to watch the merriment.
I enjoy shopping so I wandered around the market, looking for things to buy. They have a fish massage/pedicure here, it seemed to be popular with tourists I see.
A line of stalls sell every imaginable food, and Asiatique has some of the best restaurants there are, but sadly for me, they were all full with long queues. Stall food it would be!
I chose to walk up to Saphan Thaksin BTS after the countdown, the boat queue was long and traffic slow. It's far but can easily be walked and the walk gives you some night color and a chance to unwind.
